Siem Reap - Day 1

Day 1
Arrived in Siem Reap ( see History)by Jetstar at about 4pm. We booked a taxi online from cambodiataxidriver.com for US$8 to Stueng Siem Reap Hotel. It is about 7 km from the Siem Reap International airport. The driver came in a 9 seater van to pick up the 3 of us. He was holding a paper with my name for identification.

The hotel  as shown above is situated right at the edge of the Old Market of Siem Reap. Architecture is nice and it is very convenient as it is just within minutes from the restaurants, the famous Pub Street, Night markets, and the many massage and spa shops in the vicinity.

Upon arrival, we had good reception fom the waiters. We were given a welcome drink and a cool towel to freshen up. The hotel staff speaks reasonably good English and more importantly, they were all very courteous and hospitable. A wonderful team of people.

Spend the evening walking round Old Market, bought some Cambodian tit-bits and the had dinner at the Khmer Kitchen Restaurant. The food is not fantastic, fairly normal Asian and Cambodian food.

Siem Reap town centre is relatively small. One can easily cover it within a few hours. However, do take your time to look at the shops, the restaurants and the activities of buying and selling, tuk-tuk drivers offering their services. Don't miss out on the unique streetscape, the people and the children.

Look into the shops, see what they are selling as some sell raher unique items, dried foods and souveniers. Smell the atmosphere, some areas can be rather pungent while others smell good from the food they offer.

Well, this is all part of getting to know and appreciate a new place. Take photos and capture the life in the town.
Have fun and enjoy !!
