Japan Holiday - Gora, Hakone, Nikko, Asakusa

7-13 April 2018

Day 1-4 : Gora /Hakone

Day 4-6 : Nikko

Day 7-8 : Asakusa, Tokyo

Day 1

Flew via Scoot from Singapore to Tokyo.

Reached Tokyo around 11am and took the Narita Airport Express to Shinjuku Station.

A good site to check out Japan’s train connections and time is HYPERDIA

From there we bought a Hakone Free Pass and travel to Gora.

When we arrived at Hakone-Yomoto, we need to the take Hakone Tozan Train to Gora. This is the only mountain railway in Japan. The train departs from Hakone-Yumoto station (at 96 m above sea level) and takes about 40 minutes to arrive at the final stop, Gora station (at 541 m above sea level).

Halfway up the line there are switchbacks, where the driver and the conductor change shifts and the train switch to reversed travel direction. It is a special experience that can be enjoyed only with the Hakone Tozan Train.

Hakone Tozan Train to Gora

Gora is a town of hills and hot springs, located on a gently-sloping mountain in Hakone, one of Japan’s leading hot spring resorts. The terminus of the Hakone Tozan Railway, Gora has an abundance of things to see and enjoy, including a park that makes the most of the beautiful natural environment, Japan’s first outdoor art museum, and a cable car.

Our accommodation in Gora is Hakone Gora Tabibito no Yado e-Rooms.

Our accommodation - about 10 minutes walk/climb from Gora station
